  - It's smooth, won't snag your threads and holds up to washing and weather.

  - Easy to stitch through

  - Trim right to the edge of your bead work - it will not fray!

Using Lacy's Stiff Stuff ~ Tips, Tricks, Hints:

Color your Lacy's for unlimited background options!

~ Lacy's can be easily dyed to match your background, your thread, or your heart's desire with RIT dyes:
Mix 1 tsp. RIT powder to 2 cups boiling water. Be careful: the dye will fizz and boil up. Allow your Lacy's to soak in the dye for 60 seconds. Rinse in cold water and pat dry with paper towel. Allow to air-dry.
 * You can adjust the color of your Lacy's by adjusting the length of time you soak it.
    * PRO TIP: Sherry Serafini often dyes her Lacy's gray because the gray background virtually disappears under most beads, therefore the focus is on your bead work and not a background.

~ Lacy's Stiff Stuff can be colored with permanent ink markers:
Color as you go to change background colors as needed in following your design or pattern.

Easily apply a pattern onto your Lacy's!

~ Lacy's Stiff Stuff can be run through most printers! You can print your pattern directly onto your Lacy's from the computer. Depending on your printer ink, your pattern may or may not be water soluble.

~ You can use an iron-on transfer to apply your pattern onto Lacy's Stiff Stuff.

~ Use a light box or sunlight through a window to trace your pattern onto your Lacy's Stiff Stuff.

Make bigger pieces of Lacy's for your large projects!

~ Lacy's Stiff Stuff can be made to any size and shape you desire, simply by "butting" your pieces together. Think big - create sculptural pieces, artwear, dancing shoes and popwow dresses, costumes, beaded clothing or shoes, etc.
 * The process is simple:
Put your glue (such as E6000) on the edge of one of the pieces of Lacy's. Place the pieces you wish to join, edge to edge.  Do NOT overlap them, simply butt them next to each other, making sure the glue makes contact with the edge of both pieces.  Allow to dry. Once dry, you can bead across the seam. You can do this many times and in different areas. This allows you to work on each piece in a more manageable size, then place the pieces together for your completed project.

Create Dimension in your Bead Embroidery!

~ Use Lacy's Stiff Stuff to create a high-dome cab. Yes, you can use your Lacy's Stiff Stuff to get more bang for your buck with a budget cabochon! You may make a less-expensive, thinner cab look tall and substantial simply by gluing the cab to a layer (or several layers) of Lacy's Stiff Stuff and then covering the layers with your beads when you bezel your cabochon.
    * PRO TIP: When creating a high dome cabochon with layers of Lacy's, you will want to cut your Lacy's slightly larger than your cab. Glue the layers together under our cabochon until you get the height you desire and then allow to dry at least 2 hours. This lengthy dry time is important so your base doesn't slip when you trim it. After it is dry, you will trim the base to the exact size of your cab. Then glue your new high-dome cab to your Lacy's Stiff Stuff and bead that bezel.

~ Use odd scraps of Lacy's Stiff Stuff to stack under Rivolis to create a custom-fit base, then bead around them as you would a cabochon.

~ Use scraps of your Lacy's to create different levels on your foundation to create interest and dimension in your piece.

~ If you enjoy needle felting, you can felt directly onto Lacy's Stiff Stuff.
